"I have been with State Farm for 25 years. The last 13 years, Shay Conder has been my agent. I never had a single claim on my auto, home, or business insurance in those 25 years. Until last year. In August 2024, there was a freak hailstorm located in Orem, UT. It was a 100 year storm and caused massive destruction. We filed a claim on our roof. All of our neighbors were receiving checks instantly and starting repairs right away. Even other State Farm customers. The State Farm adjuster came to look at our roof and told my wife that it was clear hail damage and that we would get a new roof based on our policy. A couple weeks later, State Farm rejected our claim without any explanation. We tried contacting Shay, but he would never respond. We spoke to Patty, his office manager and she assured us he would respond. After weeks of being ignored, we called the state board of insurance who recommended we hire an independent adjuster to work with State Farm to get our claim approved. After months of back and forth, we were approved for a minimal amount that barely covered the roof and none of the window or other damage. Because we also had to pay the adjuster and pay our deductible we paid thousands of dollars out of pocket. Finally, in late February 2025, our roof was fixed. We received a check for the balance and deposited that to our account. One week later, we paid the roofer his remaining balance. Two days after this, another identical check arrived from State Farm. We did not cash it. My wife wanted to call them and see why two checks were issued. Because we are honest people. The next day, we received a notice from our bank that State Farm issued a stop payment on the check we had already deposited. The roofer had also deposited the check we paid him. As a result, nearly $12,000 was instantly withdrawn from our checking, nearly overdrafting our account. In 25 years with State Farm, we have paid them well over $100,000. To be dealt with this poorly when we filed our first ever claim (due to an act of nature), was beyond reprehensible. I will definitely begin the search for a new agent and a new insurance company. Cannot recommend Shay Conder or State Farm less."

"I have had my Car, Home, and Life Insurance with Shay for a decade and I can’t say enough about them. I love State Farm in general but the real reason I stay is because of Shay and Patty. They know their stuff and are always willing to help and have a conversation and answer any questions. If you want to have your insurance done right the first time so you don’t have to worry, go see Shay or Patty."

"Dishonest and self-serving -- As a 20+ year State Farm client, I went to this office when I moved to town and needed to obtain renters insurance. I was never allowed to see an agent as the front receptionist took over everything, including asking about moving my vehicles over. I declined but told her I'd be willing to accept a quote for Utah coverage. -- Shortly after this an acquaintance asked me where I got my insurance through. When I told them it was Shay Conder's office they immediately advised me to be on my guard as that office can be "shady". Not long after this I get notes from my current provider stating my auto coverage has been cancelled "per my request". No such request was ever made by me. It came directly from Shay Conder's office. They never provided me a quote but took it upon themselves to cancel my coverage with a different agent - against my will - and move it over to themselves (I have no idea what type of coverage I'm supposedly signed up for now), and I'm getting past due notices in the mail -- Incidentally, I always paid my prior agent through direct deposit. Nothing would be past due if this office hadn't stuck their hands "in the cookie jar" and started making problems. I'm paying "I don't know what rate" for "who knows what coverage" and now I have one more hurdle to work through before I can even register my vehicles in-state."

"Don't mistake this review for a critique of State Farm as an insurance company in general. (Which incidentally is also positive.) Shay Conder and staff as an insurance agent are friendly, knowledgeable, and are most willing to help find what your needs are."
